Ledecky, 27, won four medals, including two gold, in Paris to give her 14 career medals -- the most of any American female Olympian. Mead, 29, helped the men's four rowing team to the first gold medal for the U.S. since the Rome Olympics in 1960.
Both expressed their thoughts about their selection in videos posted to social media on Thursday by Team USA.
"Thank you, Team USA," Ledecky said. "This is a huge honor. I can't wait for closing ceremony. It's been an honor representing our country here in Paris. I'm so proud to be part of this team."
"I've got chills," Mead said. "That's pretty cool. I've gotta get a haircut."
The Sunday ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Stade de France.
